Greetings from a surprisingly sunny London! I am on a short break this week. This year has flown by and I can’t believe we are already into Q4. October should be a fun month, however, because the Cricket World Cup is on, and I plan on watching as many of the games as I can. The tournament is not without its share of controversy, but that just seems to be par for the course in India these days.
Anyway, some interesting reading/content links this week include a look back at the life and career of M.S. Swaminathan, a wide-ranging conversation with Altana’s Lee Robinson, Jonathan Ruffer’s Q3 investment review, Greg Miller on the seemingly never-ending Euronav / Frontline saga, Yi Fuxian on a Chinese bubble long in the making and Mineola Search Partners’ deep dive on compensation.
The WGC has also released a new documentary called “Gold: A Journey With Idris Elba,” in which he travels the world to explore gold’s meaning and contribution to societies and economies over time. It is an interesting watch – let’s be honest, you can’t really go wrong combining gold and Idris Elba! If you like the documentary, however, I would also recommend Peter Bernstein’s “The Power of Gold: The History of an Obsession,” which should find a home in the library of any serious gold bug.
