On a separate note, I made a brief visit recently to the Jews of Singapore museum, which is located in a beautiful old building on Waterloo Street. After reading both the Last Kings of Shanghai and The Global Merchants, I was interested in learning more about the origins of the Jewish community here and their role in the development of Singapore. The museum is very small, but the exhibits are informative and they also have some interesting books that you can flip through. An enjoyable visit overall and they also have a good kosher mart and restaurant. Some photos below in case of interest:
